Frequently Asked Questions

Although Hudson Valley Countertop Refinishing and Bathtub Resurfacing has been done for years, many customers are unfamiliar with the service. Here are several frequently asked questions about the resurfacing process:

Can you change the color of my bathtub & tile? Expand

Yes! We can change from whichever color you already have, to any new color. We have many manufacturer colors, so we are able to closely match your old tub and tile to a new fixture.

What if my bathtub has been resurfaced or refinished before? Expand

You are able to have your tub refinished again. In many cases, the old finish needs to be removed before applying the new one. You have the choice of removing it yourself, or we can take care of it for you. There is an extra prep cost for us to remove the old finish.

Is there an odor while the work is being done? Expand

We come ready with full ventilation systems to extract odors that occur during the process. You may recognize a slight odor after we are done, but this is usually gone within a few hours.

Is the new tub finish slippery? Expand

Not any more than a new acrylic tub, but if you want additional protection against slipping, talk to us about our non-slip finish available at extra cost.

How do I care for my newly resurfaced fixture? Expand

All refinished surfaces must be cleaned with a non-abrasive mild cleanser. The new refinished surface will be smooth and your grout lines will be sealed (if tile is resurfaced), leaving a surface that is non-porous and resistant to mold, mildew, and dirt. This surface will only need light cleaning with a mild detergent, such as Scrubbing Bubbles or Lysol tub and tile cleaner. No scrubbing or scouring will be required. How does this compare with a bathtub liner? Expand

The finish we add to your tub is a lot harder than that of a bathtub liner or insert. Also, our finish is bonded directly to your bathtub, there are no air pockets or gaps between the finish and the porcelain where water can get stuck and become stagnant, which in turn will cause mold and mildew to grow between the bathtub liner and your tub. Resurfacing is also more affordable.
